We started this business.... well, I guess you could say because this is where our journey has led us! I started directing plays and fell in love with youth theater and all the children I worked with. Watching everyone come together as a team was just amazing to me. I felt that God was leading me to supply more avenues for children to get involved in theater, and become closer to each other and support each other. My ultimate goal at this point is to start a non-profit business, get a building and start a youth/family center where we can have drama classes, perform plays, have family nights, game nights, dances, etc. I found that as soon as I was willing to step outside of my own "box" and my own comfort zone, that God had the next step all ready to go. It's been quite a ride thus far, and I can't wait to see how everything develops!
Here we are...
Byn:
I am unique, my husband calls me a dichotomy... or rather an uberchotomy:) I am several different people, depending on my mood. I am beyond scattered, very ADD I suppose, if you need a label. Our entire family is very dramatic and happy, there are lots of giggles, spurts of laughter and fun at our house. There are also plenty of mood swings, arguing and even tears at times. We're invariably human. I have always homeschooled my children, and at this point I do it with plenty of help from other moms and co-op classes. I teach Drama classes, I love theater and direct youth theater. I LOVE 'my' drama kids in so many ways, they always bring somethign extra to my days. I am lazy to a fault, I hate cleaning and I love to sit on my bum and read... Oh, and I teach 4 Zumba classes a week and am studying for my AFAA certification so I can teach more classes. I love attention, I love being alone. I love to laugh and be the center or everything ~ and yet I like to be left alone. I am a control freak... or I just want to follow along and have no responsibility at all (although that happens rarely, I must admit:)
I am young at heart. According to a lot of my friends, I am either the most liberal friend they know or the most conservative. I have a nose ring and purple hair, I love making homemade bread and baking. My favorite colors are pink and black, but I am most definitely not "emo" ~ I'm not sure that's an old woman label anyway:) My husband and I recently started serving in the children's department of our church with our oldest daughter, Sprite. It has been fantastic! I love working with kids in so many ways!!
A verse that has recently "struck" me... Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.
And this could not be more true. Every single new thing that comes about is a surprise to me and a blessing I didn't imagine and certainly never hoped for, much less plan! All the plans I've made, the things I always thought I 'should' do or 'wanted' to do have fallen by the wayside and I feel more fulfilled and blessed than ever.
Things that I used to think would be a stress and be exhausting actually energize me and leave me feeling blessed. It is an amazing thing, this journey. Trying to walk in faith and not let fear hold me back!
Now, with this new play I've written, and new book, I've added "writer" to the list and am happily going along on this new path that has developed in front of me... and I can't wait to see what's next!
Patrick: My husband is awesome. He is truly amazing. The "Hero" of the story was very much inspired by him (except the rude part!) Of course, the King was somewhat inspired by him as well... Hmmm... He is just wonderful at all the techie type things that I stink at. He is my final editor and encourager. Without him, none of this would exist.
Outside of working with me, he actually has his own business Custom Sight and Sound Home Theaters and he does custom home theaters for the Tulsa area. He's great at that too, of course.
The Kids: I know, I know, they're JUST kids... what do they have to do with anything? Well, first off, they have to be really well behaved, self motivated and helpful beyond belief when I get into productive mode. I have been known to sit and write 20,000 words over the course of a weekend... which obviously leaves very little time for anything else (other than driving one particular tall blonde child to basketball practice, but I won't be naming any names). My kids have encouraged me through this whole process, even my daughter, the writer has said that my book is good. She also said that she couldn't help edit, because after finishing her first semester of High School writing, she learned (again), that her mother breaks all the rules.
My kids are inspirations (see that Prince Awesome character who has his biceps NAMED??? I know this kid for REAL! And that quiet, timid yet forceful maid?? I know her too, except her biceps are probably bigger! And that somewhat ditzy girl? I know her at times, too... and so on and so on...) and I can't imagine trying to create fictional characters without these truly... ummm... interesting characters in my life every single day!
To my children ~ You are awesome, amazing and wonderful people. Thank you!
Jennifer Duncan: My homeschooling helper, friend, assistant director and editor... and advisor in so many things! She is an amazing woman, willing to wade through my stories and plays... thank you:) (She wrote the rest of this... I swear I didn't make it up!!!) Jennifer is a wife and homeschool mom as well as a Latin teacher to several terrific students in the Tulsa area. She also loves working with kids and is continually amazed at what they can do.She’s having an amazing time working with Byn on this project and hopes there are many more to come!is a wife and homeschool mom as well as a Latin teacher to several terrific students in the Tulsa area. She also loves working with kids and is continually amazed at what they can do.She’s having an amazing time working with Byn on this project and hopes there are many more to come!
